Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has shared details about the losses he incurred during the recent anti-government protests.

Sudi’s club, Timber XO, was invaded by protesters who stole expensive liquor and other items from the establishment.

How much Oscar Sudi used to open Timber XO

In an interview with Oga Obinna, Sudi revealed that he had lost KSh 48 million due to the invasion. He appealed to those who took speakers and other valuable items to return them.

“I invested around KSh 250 million in Timber XO, Timber Hotel, and other businesses. While I would rather endure this financial loss than risk lives, it’s important to acknowledge that the situation could have been much worse. We could have lost over 50 people there. I instructed my team to let the protesters do as they wished, and although the police did their best, I’m grateful that the potential outcome could have been catastrophic. Despite my personal losses, I will recover. I still have my hands and my mind,” Sudi said.

How much Sudi lost after Timber XO invasion

Sudi also disclosed that he has continued to pay his 220 employees despite the club being closed. He mentioned that renovations are complete and they are set to reopen in the first week of August.

“By Wednesday, we will be open. We lost liquor worth KSh 25 million and nearly KSh 48 million on the hotel side. I urge anyone who stole from Timber to return the items; we will not report you. The stolen speakers and other equipment are programmed and cannot be used. Even if the items were damaged, we have forgiven you,” he added.

16 people charged with vandalising Sudi’s club

The Eldoret High Court has determined that at least 16 individuals were involved in the destruction of Sudi’s club and charged them with breaking into and stealing alcohol valued at KSh 78 million.

The court also noted that property damages during the youth-led protests against the finance bill totaled KSh 80 million. Bail decisions for the accused are pending, as their lawyers declined to make virtual pleas on their behalf.
