Today, July 1, marks the fifth anniversary of Bob Collymore’s passing.
The former Safaricom CEO succumbed to leukemia at his Nairobi home at the age of 61. He was cremated a few days later at the Kariokor crematorium. His wife, Wambui Kamiru, has cherished his memory ever since.
Collymore touched the hearts of many during his lifetime, and Kenyans continue to pay glowing tributes to him on various occasions.
Wambui celebrates Bob Collymore
Collymore and Wambui, the founder of The ArtSpace, tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in April 2016 at an upmarket residence in Kitisuru.
The wedding was attended by prominent figures in Kenya, including CEOs and top celebrities. On Collymore’s fifth death anniversary, Wambui recalled the poignant moment when her husband’s body was moved to Lee Funeral Home just after his passing.
“At about this time five years ago, I had just arrived at Lee Funeral Home. The memory lingers, and the love remains unwavering,” she shared. Wambui also posted white flying dove emojis, and Kenyans joined her in celebrating Collymore’s life.
Wambui fondly reminisces about the good old days with Collymore
In January 2023, Wambui celebrated Collymore’s 65th birthday posthumously by sharing a never-before-seen photo of him wearing an afro wig. In the photo, shared on her Twitter page, Collymore was dressed in a beige coat and pink shirt, with Wambui resting her chin on his shoulder and her hand around him. Social media users joined in commemorating the former telecommunications leader and reflecting on his impact in Kenya.
Kenyans fondly remember Bob Collymore for his transformative leadership at Safaricom and his significant contributions to various philanthropic initiatives. His legacy continues to inspire admiration and gratitude among many in Kenya.
