Chrisphine Odawa, Rex Masai’s father, has urged Gen Z protesters to persist in their fight for change following the tragic loss of his son, who was killed during protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
Kenyans who heard about Rex Masai’s death mourned him deeply, as he was reportedly the first person to be killed by police during the demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024.
The family held Rex Masai’s funeral service in Nairobi, where his uncle spoke on behalf of his father, Chrisphine Odawa.
In a YouTube video shown by Azimio TV, Rex Masai’s father, Chrisphine Odawa, is seen standing near his brother, who was speaking on his behalf during the funeral service held at St. Stephen’s ACK Church.
He firmly stated that they would support their fallen son, even though his burial would take place in Machakos County.
“Gen Z, I urge you to keep fighting for your parents. They have tried for many years but haven’t succeeded. They have never achieved what you have demonstrated is possible. We are with you in this fight; we will be supporting you from behind,” he said.
“You are also fighting for the future generations that will come after you, so that when their time comes, they will find things in order,” he added.
In another story, Michael Kihuga Nyaguthie, who was tragically shot three times in the abdomen by police, was buried in Nakuru County.
Michael was shot while demonstrating against the Finance Bill 2024 near State House Nakuru, just a week after he had buried his dear dad.
He was laid to rest on Wednesday, July 3, and at the burial service, his mother expressed that she never thought she would have to bury her son.
How Rex’s family created to his death
Chrisphine Odawa expressed that his son’s passing was a profound loss for their family. He mentioned that Rex’s burial had been delayed due to unresolved matters and expressed gratitude to leaders for their support during the funeral arrangements
