Nairobi – Rex Masai’s mother has voiced her concerns about a potential cover-up related to her son’s death during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests. She fears that there may be efforts to obscure the true circumstances surrounding his killing.
During a citizens’ engagement forum, Gillian Munyao highlighted issues of witness intimidation and evidence tampering, expressing concern that these actions may be part of a broader effort to obscure the truth about her son’s death.
The grieving mother revealed that she had been at the hospital, where she viewed her son’s body after he was allegedly shot by the police.
She recounted, “There was an entry wound on the left thigh, and I was told that this small wound was responsible for my child’s death. They informed me that the bullet was lodged inside. The doctor even pressed on the area and said, ‘Do you feel this hard object? It’s the bullet, and we are not permitted to remove it because the police have already arrived and taken a statement.'”
However, during the post-mortem examination, Gillian Munyao noticed that the bullet had been removed from her son’s body.
She added, “In my mind, I had thought my child was left as he was, but it turns out the bullet had been removed some time ago.”
Gillian observed that anyone who attempts to discuss Rex’s killing is quickly silenced. She noted that even parents whose children witnessed the shooting are reluctant to speak up.
