Jackson Kuria Kihara, known by his alias @Shakurthecop, a police officer, has been located safe after being reported missing.
A Kenya Prisons warden, Shakur, has been vocal about his opposition to the Finance Bill 2024 and the much-publicized police mission in Haiti.
Shakur’s family can breathe a sigh of relief after he was found on Monday, July 1, in the evening, following three days of uncertainty.
On a regular day, one might mistake Shakur for not being in the National Police Service due to his outspoken protests against the government. His bold actions have garnered numerous warnings from concerned Kenyans who fear for his safety.
Shakur’s disappearance gained national attention after his lawyer and family raised concerns about his whereabouts. His lawyer, Benjamin Njeru Wa Muthoni, indicated that Shakur faced difficulties following his public display of multiple #RejectFinanceBill2024 banners on social media. According to Njeru, individuals claiming to be Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) agents visited Shakur’s home during the search, but found only his spouse.
“At some point, DCI officers visited his home and inquired about his whereabouts. Throughout this period, he had not been charged with any offense or officially summoned. Due to concerns about his safety, he made the decision to go into hiding,” stated Benjamin Njeru Wa Muthoni regarding Shakur’s situation.
Shakur’s struggles for safety
Njeru advised the 25-year-old officer to report his concerns at the nearest police station, but instead, Shakur chose to seek anticipatory bail first.
Despite maintaining close communication with friends and family, he expressed suspicion about calls he received and believed he was being followed.
Concerned about his safety, they filed a missing person’s report at Kiamumbi Police Station amid allegations that he was being held incommunicado by the police.
Alfred Keter released from police custody
In another incident, former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was reportedly abducted by three civilian men in a white car with registration number KBE 256H, but he was later released.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino condemned the abduction and accused the government of intimidating opponents of its regime. Footage capturing the incident showed Keter’s children and wife shouting helplessly as they witnessed him being taken away.
