Despite the Finance Bill 2024 being withdrawn, which initially sparked the demonstrations, the youth have vowed to continue their protests.
They intend to rally every Tuesday and Thursday until their demands for various reforms are addressed.
During the protests on Tuesday, July 2, a tragic incident unfolded in Nairobi’s CBD. A protester, in an attempt to retrieve a tear gas canister launched by the police, tragically lost his fingers.
Distressed and visibly in pain, he was photographed sitting on a motorbike, clutching his injured hand while surrounded by fellow protesters who looked on with concern.
President William Ruto, recognizing the protests and the concerns raised by the youth regarding taxation, national debt, unemployment, and corruption, has indicated his willingness to initiate dialogue with Generation Z to tackle these issues.
