In the early hours of Saturday, August 3, a devastating fire tore through Toi Market, causing significant losses for the traders.

Toi Market, renowned for its diverse selection of fast-moving products, has been a crucial support for numerous small-scale entrepreneurs. Among those affected by the recent disaster was Brenda Fieres Moraa, whose shop was entirely consumed by the flames.

Brenda Fieres Moraa told UPEPO.co.ke that she had recently invested KSh 150,000 in new stock, hoping to capitalize on the school holiday rush. Now, faced with the aftermath of the devastating fire at Toi Market, she is struggling with the harsh reality of not having a source of income to support her family.

In a heart-wrenching moment following the blaze, Brenda’s daughter, Tee, asked her,

“Mummy, now you don’t have a job. You won’t go to Toi, and where will you get money to pay for my school fees and food?”

Brenda admitted that her daughter’s words left her deeply distressed, yet she tried to maintain her composure for her child. Despite her own overwhelming emotions, Brenda reassured Tee with faith, saying,

“It’s a difficult time, but it is well. Jehovah God will make a way for us.”

The devoted entrepreneur revealed that, although she was putting on a brave face for her daughter, she was deeply shaken inside.

Brenda recounted the years of hard work she had invested in building her business at the bustling Toi Market, emphasizing the significant loss she now faces.

The fire, which erupted in the early morning hours, ravaged Toi Market with intense ferocity, destroying stalls and goods worth millions of shillings.

The devastating blaze has left numerous businesspeople with nothing but the smoldering ruins of their livelihoods.

The situation was further exacerbated when frustrated locals threw stones at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja during his visit to the market, reflecting the deep anger and desperation felt by the affected traders.

Amidst this turmoil, Brenda, her daughter Tee, and the other traders are clinging to hope, praying for brighter days ahead as they navigate the aftermath of this catastrophic event.
