Digital content creator and emerging entrepreneur, Murugi Munyi, recently emphasized the transformative power of courtesy in relationships, asserting its ability to revive struggling unions in unexpected ways.
According to Murugi, who co-hosts the TMI podcast, practicing appreciation and using polite language when making requests to your partner can significantly strengthen the bond between couples.
“One piece of advice that my mom gave us when we were younger, and it has resonated with me throughout my life, is the importance of three phrases: ‘please,’ ‘I’m sorry,’ and ‘thank you,'” shared the mother of three.
Murugi stressed the relevance of incorporating these phrases into everyday interactions, especially within marriages and long-term relationships. Reflecting on her own experience, she underscored how adding “please” to requests and expressing gratitude for routine tasks can foster mutual respect and appreciation.
“These phrases play a crucial role because I am in a long-term relationship myself,” Murugi affirmed.
She further elaborated on how neglecting these simple courtesies over time can erode the foundation of a relationship. Murugi admitted that familiarity can often lead to taking each other for granted, making it essential to actively employ politeness and appreciation.
“In marriages and long-term relationships, it’s easy to forget to acknowledge these gestures, which can weaken the fabric of your connection,” she observed.
Murugi Munyi concluded by urging couples to respect each other’s boundaries, even in seemingly trivial matters like borrowing a partner’s car without prior notice. She emphasized the importance of offering apologies and expressing gratitude sincerely, rather than merely acknowledging mistakes.
“Learn to express gratitude even for the smallest acts. Use ‘please’ in your requests instead of assuming things will be done. Sometimes, improving your relationship can be as simple as using these three phrases,” Murugi advised, emphasizing the potential positive impact on relationship dynamics.
Through her insights, Murugi Munyi encourages couples to prioritize respect, appreciation, and consideration in their daily interactions, fostering stronger and more resilient relationships over time.
