Mwangi, the husband of the late Mbaitu FM radio presenter Mercy Mawia, delivered a heartfelt tribute in her honor.

What was Mercy Mawia’s husband’s last message to her?

During his wife’s burial on August 2, Mwangi gave a moving tribute, describing her as the light of his life.

The heartbroken husband expressed his shock and grief over losing Mercy, noting that he was mourning both her and their unborn child.

He also shared his final words to his wife, offering her encouragement before her passing. Mwangi said,

“Mercy, my wife and the mother of my child, my light went out the day I lost you. It was a shock, as we believed there was no danger; the doctors had assured us. In this casket lie both my wife and our unborn child. I am here grieving both their loss. We had hoped to name our daughter Mwende. In her final moments, Mercy’s heart was shattered when we realized we were losing our child. Little did we know we would lose both of them. My last words to her were that she had faced worse situations before.”

How did Mercy Mawia and her husband meet?

He also shared that he and the late journalist felt an immediate connection the first time they met during admissions.

“We met in 2008 while studying journalism,” Mwangi recalled. “It was a remarkable coincidence. I had initially enrolled at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to study Information Technology and Computer Engineering, but I dropped out without informing my parents. I then joined Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) for journalism, where I met Mercy. We clicked immediately, and by the second week of admission, she was already a close friend.”

Mwangi also shared that one of Mercy’s wishes was to meet his mother, who had passed away while he was still in high school. He expressed hope that they have now met and shared a hug in the afterlife.

“I often wondered what I did to deserve someone as wonderful as Mercy,” he said. “She was kind, smart, and truly exceptional. Although she had one wish—to meet my mother—no one could fulfill it while she was alive. I hope they have found each other and are embracing in the afterlife, making up for what she missed in this life. I don’t know how I will cope without her.”

He promised to care for their daughter and expressed that his love for Mercy would remain unwavering.

“Mercy, I’ve known only to live by your ways and have spent all my adult life with you. I surrender to the fact that death has separated us untimely, but even in death, my love for you is undefeated. Our daughter will be in good hands,” he said.

She had shared a video of a dress she had bought specifically for attending gospel singer Fortune Mwikali’s wedding.
