In Nairobi, a man from Mukuru Kwa Njenga has been taken into custody following the tragic killing of his stepdaughter.
Wycliffe Barongo Nyabuti is accused of stabbing his 16-year-old stepdaughter, Joy Kinya, multiple times before attempting to flee the scene.
According to Barongo’s wife, Regina Nkatha, her husband had purchased the suspected murder weapon nearly two weeks prior to the incident.
The motive behind the brutal act remains unclear. Regina Nkatha revealed that her daughter, Joy Kinya, was stabbed multiple times: twice in the stomach, once in the left arm, and once above the arm, totaling four stabs.
“She was stabbed twice in the stomach, once on the left arm, and once above the arm. It was four times in total. The child passed away at eleven in the morning, and we took her to the mortuary,” Nkatha said, fighting back tears.
Joy had previously complained to her mother about her stepfather’s behavior, but Nkatha never imagined it would lead to the loss of her daughter.
How did Joy meet her demise?
In a disturbing sequence of events, Wycliffe Barongo Nyabuti allegedly sent Joy’s siblings to church, telling them that Joy would not be attending the service.
According to Mary Gacheri, Joy’s aunt, the suspect deliberately turned up the television volume to drown out her cries for help during the attack.
Mary Gacheri explained that Joy Kinya was already dressed for church when the attack occurred, with her clothes stained by blood.
“We later learned that the father had locked the house and Joy inside, turned up the TV volume to muffle her cries. She was still in her church clothes, which were stained with blood. We brought them from the hospital; she had shoes on and was carrying a bag, so she was clearly ready to leave,” Gacheri recounted.
A neighbor who heard Joy’s muffled cries for help knocked on the door and discovered her on the floor.
“I rushed over and heard her saying, ‘You want to kill me.’ The door was locked, but when I knocked, it opened. I found her lying on the floor and asked the man, ‘Why are you hurting the child?’ He did not respond,” the neighbor revealed.
Barongo has been detained at Embakasi Police Station, while Joy’s body has been transported to the City Mortuary for an autopsy.

In another tragic incident, a man from Kajiado took his daughter’s life before attempting to harm himself.
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Manyasi confirmed the distressing event, attributing it to ongoing marital discord between the man and his wife.
Commander Manyasi described the incident as deeply unfortunate and emphasized the importance of seeking counseling for couples facing marital challenges.
