President William Ruto has initiated further changes to his Cabinet lineup, a move highlighted by the appointment of Soipan Tuya as the new Minister of Defence, while Aden Duale transitions to lead the Ministry of Environment.
This development was communicated to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula during his address to the House, where he also announced the names of 11 nominees for cabinet positions under Ruto’s reconstituted administration.
The nominees have been referred to the Committee on Appointments, tasked with vetting them and presenting a comprehensive report within 28 days. President Ruto unveiled these nominations last Friday, setting the stage for a parliamentary process that will scrutinize each nominee’s suitability for office.
In response to his reassignment, Aden Duale expressed gratitude to the President and voiced eagerness to commence his duties in the new portfolio. “I look forward to serving in my new role,” Duale remarked.
Following vetting by the National Assembly, the parliament will present the nominees to the entire house for approval or rejection.
If approved, the Speaker will submit a report to President Ruto, who will then formalize their appointments through gazettement. Subsequently, the appointees will take an oath of office as Cabinet Secretaries, marking the beginning of their tenure for the remainder of Ruto’s current term in office.
These developments signal a significant restructuring within Ruto’s administration, prompting keen interest and scrutiny from various quarters.
