The outspoken political activist, whose 10-year-old son was diagnosed with kidney disease, is currently receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Speaking to UPEPO.co.ke last week, Okanga pleaded with Kenyans to assist him in saving his son’s life.
“My child’s health is in a critical condition. Initially, I was asked to buy seven bottles of medication, but later the doctor informed me that nine more were needed. I had purchased the first seven, hoping for improvement, but unfortunately, the situation hasn’t improved. Each bottle costs KSh 10,000,” he explained.
Okanga expressed his fear that he might lose his son if he doesn’t secure timely treatment.
The 10-year-old boy has been undergoing treatment, but there has been no improvement in his condition.
“Doctors requested KSh 40,000 to send his blood sample to India for further tests, but I cannot afford the money. He was supposed to undergo treatment in India, but due to financial constraints, I am unable to take him there,” Okanga explained.
Speaking to UPEPO.co.ke, the staunch supporter of Azimio la Umoja expressed his distress and appealed to well-wishers to assist him during this challenging time.
“Please, Kenyans, help me. When the results come out, they say my child needs to go to India, but I have nothing. All Kenyans who care about me, please assist. Even if it’s KSh 10, KSh 50, KSh 100, or any amount, I would deeply appreciate it. The doctor told me we might lose this child, and I am under immense stress. Kenyans are very generous during funerals. If my child passes away, I don’t want anyone claiming they contributed for personal gain; help me now while he is still alive, but unfortunately, no one seems interested. If I lose my child, I ask that politicians do not attempt to donate,” he pleaded.
Okanga mentioned that Babu Owino has been the primary person supporting him since his son was hospitalized. He also revealed that Raila Odinga sent him KSh 50,000 for his 10-year-old son’s treatment, for which he expressed gratitude. Additionally, he thanked Nairobi MCA Oluoch Oduor for his assistance during this challenging time.
“Babu has stood by me. 70% of the money I’ve used for my son’s treatment has come from Babu. I can call him even in the middle of the night, and he answers, sending money for my son’s treatment,” he said.
Okanga expressed disappointment that despite being a public figure known to many politicians, they have gone silent and no longer respond to his calls. “Politicians don’t answer my calls. Please help me save my son’s life,” he pleaded.
