The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. when the boda boda he was riding on collided with a Forward Sacco bus near the Caltex Petrol Station. This accident has led to an outpouring of grief from his family, friends, and fans, with his stepmother, Eunice Atieno, praising his character and contributions.
Eunice Atieno, Fred Omondi’s stepmother, shared her heartfelt thoughts in an interview with this publication following his tragic death. She recalled receiving the devastating news on Sunday morning and spoke fondly of Fred’s humorous nature from a young age, which eventually blossomed into a successful comedy career. Atieno emphasized Fred’s deep love for his family and parents, noting that he loved her very much as well.
She mentioned that the family is in the process of planning his funeral and highlighted the importance of community support during such difficult times. Atieno urged Fred and Eric Omondi’s fans and friends to stand with the bereaved family, stating, “When tragedy visits, you can’t manage it alone. It would help if you had support. People have to come to support you. We have not prepared many things, and we need support. So, if anyone is willing to support, we welcome it.”
Before his tragic death in the recent accident, Fred Omondi had a near-death experience years earlier. In 2016, he narrowly escaped death when he was accosted by armed robbers in Woodley Estate, Nairobi. This previous close call with mortality underscores the unexpected and heartbreaking nature of his passing. Fred’s resilience and ability to overcome challenges were part of what endeared him to his fans and loved ones, making his untimely death all the more poignant.
In 2016, Fred Omondi experienced a terrifying encounter with armed robbers while returning from an event in the early hours of the morning. Six armed men confronted him and pointed guns at his vehicle. Despite the danger, Fred bravely disobeyed their orders and sped off. In the ensuing chaos, two bullets struck his vehicle, but fortunately, he managed to escape unscathed. This harrowing incident demonstrated Fred’s courage and quick thinking, traits that further endeared him to his fans and community.
According to police reports, Fred Omondi was onboard a boda boda when it collided head-on with a matatu near Caltex Petrol Station at around 6:00 a.m. Fred’s best friend, 2mbili, expressed confusion and concern about the circumstances leading to Fred’s death, particularly why he was using a motorbike so early in the morning. Fred’s brother, Eric Omondi, shared his painful experience, revealing that he initially believed Fred was still alive as he rushed to the hospital. Eric also faulted the authorities for misleading him about Fred’s condition, adding to the family’s grief and confusion during this tragic time.
