In a video shared by Radio Citizen presenter Jeridah Andayi, veteran media personality Fred Machoka opened up about the difficult week he faced following the arrest of blogger Edgar Wabwire, reported by his niece, Senator Gloria Orwoba. Seated next to Andayi in the studio, Machoka revealed the barrage of insults he received from Kenyans after the incident.
“What I have been through this last week! May God have mercy on me. I was just chilling, and then Gen Zs started calling me,” Machoka shared.
He recounted that while he was watching a football match, he began receiving numerous calls. “One insulted me. Others demanded I tell my niece to release Edgar Wabwire,” he recalled.
Machoka mentioned that one caller even accused Gloria of abducting Wabwire. When he logged into X (formerly Twitter), he discovered that his phone number had been shared on social media. Concerned, the journalist called Gloria to verify the allegations, and she confirmed that the matter was with the police.
“I was receiving a lot of calls and unprintable insults, which I cannot say on the radio,” he said. “I want to ask Gen Zs, what is my mistake? It is so bad and annoying.”
Machoka emphasized that he was among the first to reject the Finance Bill 2024 and urged Gen Zs to stop harassing him. “Stop molesting me. Leave me alone. Stop antagonizing everybody,” he concluded.
