Dem Wa Facebook, a popular social media personality, recently celebrated a major milestone: reaching one million followers on TikTok.
The news came as a delightful surprise to her, leaving her both excited and grateful for the support she has received from her fans. “I didn’t even know what to make of the congratulations. I was like, what have I done? Then someone sent me a screenshot! One million followers.
God is great,” she exclaimed, reflecting her disbelief and joy over this achievement.
To mark this significant moment, Dem Wa Facebook has chosen to give back to the community, particularly focusing on Kibra girls.
She has launched a new initiative to donate sanitary pads, a gesture that underscores her deep connection to and concern for young girls who face difficulties during their menstrual cycles.
Speaking to Kenya Online Media, she elaborated on her motivation behind this charitable act.
Dem Wa Facebook emphasized the discomfort and challenges faced by girls who lack access to sanitary products.
“A girl might lack clothes, but it’s crucial to provide her with sanitary towels. We know that when it rains and you don’t have pads, it’s incredibly uncomfortable. You can’t walk properly, and there’s the unpleasant odor of blood,” she said.
This discomfort, which many girls endure each month, has driven her to use her platform to make a difference.
Her own experiences with menstrual discomfort have profoundly influenced her decision. Recalling her school days, she shared a personal anecdote of embarrassment.
“Back in primary school, I used to cut pieces from a mattress to use as makeshift pads. They would leak, and once, a boy asked me why my uniform was red. That shame has motivated me to help others. Girls are often so embarrassed that they might even stay in the bathroom all day, letting the blood drip, simply because they lack sanitary towels,” she explained.
Dem Wa Facebook’s initiative aims to alleviate some of the struggles faced by young girls in Kibra. She believes that sanitary towels are one of the best gifts that can be given to a girl, highlighting the importance of this basic necessity in maintaining their dignity and comfort.
“I am happy because I have celebrated with the right people and in the right place,” she stated, reflecting her satisfaction with the choice of beneficiaries for her celebration.
The response to her donation drive has been positive, and Dem Wa Facebook plans to expand this initiative further.
She hopes to reach more girls in need and continue using her success to support those who face similar challenges.
Her personal journey from discomfort and embarrassment to using her platform for social good illustrates a powerful commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Through this initiative, Dem Wa Facebook is not only celebrating her achievement but also making a significant contribution to improving the well-being of young girls in Kibra. Her dedication to addressing the needs of the less fortunate highlights a commendable use of her influence and success to drive positive change.
