The autopsy report for veteran comedian Fred Omondi has been released, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
Fred Omondi, a cherished personality in the Kenyan comedy community, tragically passed away in an accident on June 15 along Kang’undo Road.
The autopsy findings have revealed the extent of the severe injuries he suffered, which tragically resulted in his untimely death.
Fred Omondi tragically lost his life in a boda boda accident when the motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a matatu. The collision resulted in catastrophic injuries, according to Ken Waudo, a Laugh Industry Board Member and Churchill Show director.
“The metal of the matatu is curved, indicating a very strong impact,” Waudo elaborated during a press briefing.
The autopsy results unveiled the severity of Fred Omondi’s injuries. He suffered a severely cracked skull and multiple fractures on the right side of his body.
“He had a cracked skull, and the matatu had also pulled him, resulting in numerous fractures on his legs, hands, and ribs,” Waudo explained, providing further details on the extent of the injuries.
The injuries Fred Omondi sustained in the accident were so severe that they caused his immediate death. Ken Waudo, addressing speculations surrounding the circumstances, clarified that the fatal impact was to Fred’s head when his skull hit the road. Waudo added that had Fred survived, he would have been left in a vegetative state, noting that his spine was also cracked, underscoring the tragic nature of the incident.
Today, June 28, a memorial service was held in Nairobi to honor Fred Omondi’s memory. The service gathered family, friends, and fellow entertainers who came together to pay their respects. Among them were Fred’s brother, Eric Omondi, accompanied by his wife Lynne Njihia and close friend Terence Creative, offering mutual support during this emotional time.
Eric Omondi expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support they had received since Fred’s passing. “Asanteni sana for the support, it has been immense. A very big thank you to Chebby and Terence for organizing everything,” Eric conveyed, acknowledging the efforts of their friends in arranging the memorial and fundraising events.
After the memorial service, Fred Omondi’s body will be transported to Kisumu via airlift, facilitated by the KUPA organization.
From Kisumu, his remains will be conveyed by road to Sega in Siaya County. The burial service and ceremony are set to take place on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his home in Sega, commencing at 10:00 AM.
