The burial plans for the 12-year-old Rongai boy, who was tragically shot dead by police officers during the anti-finance bill protests, have faced obstacles after a man claiming to be his father surfaced.
Kennedy Onyango was tragically shot dead last week during protests against the Finance Bill 2024 in Ongata Rongai.
As the family prepares to lay him to rest this coming weekend, a man claiming to be Kennedy’s father has emerged, insisting on being involved in the burial arrangements.
“I have not seen the body of my son since learning about his death (through the media) because I need to ascertain whether he is dead,” he told NTV, expressing his need for confirmation before proceeding with arrangements.

The man claims that he and Kennedy’s mother went their separate ways years ago, stating that he had taken care of the boy from 2015 to 2022 when his mother took custody.
“I hope the government can assist me in transferring Kennedy’s remains to Suba because he has family there,” he said.
On the other hand, Kennedy’s mother’s husband insists that he is the boy’s father, stating they will proceed with the burial over the weekend in Homa Bay County.
Meanwhile, the postmortem results for Kennedy have shown that he was shot once in the shoulder, contradicting earlier claims that he was shot eight times.
Mum of Rongai boy finally speaks
A few days ago, Jocinter Anyango lamented her son’s unfulfilled potential following his tragic demise.
The postmortem examination revealed that the 12-year-old boy died from severe hemorrhage caused by a single bullet that severed arteries and veins and punctured his lungs.
The grieving mother shared that her son’s teachers had recognized his potential, with some actively mentoring him before his untimely death.
