The government has officially published Raila Odinga’s vision statement and curriculum vitae as part of the preparations for his campaign to become the Chairperson of the African Union (AU).
The release marks a significant step in his bid for the prestigious position, outlining his goals and qualifications for leading the continental organization.
In a post shared on Friday, July 26, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei highlighted the government’s progress in Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union (AU) Chair. The PS posted photos of two booklets, each featuring the former Prime Minister’s name on the cover and detailing the position he is vying for.
One of the booklets contained Raila Odinga’s curriculum vitae, while the other outlined his vision statement for the role, should he secure the position.
Both booklets have been translated into English and Spanish to facilitate distribution across Africa as part of the campaign requirements.
On Wednesday, June 5, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that the government had set up a dedicated secretariat to lead Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
As the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi affirmed the government’s dedication to supporting Raila Odinga’s bid for the prestigious position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Mudavadi stated that the team had finalized the preparatory and application documents, including translating Raila Odinga’s resume into six languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, French, English, and Kiswahili.
Mudavadi expressed confidence in Raila Odinga’s ability to uphold standards of excellence that align with the continent’s collective vision for Africa in 2063, as articulated in the African Union Commission’s development framework.
Earlier, Raila Odinga expressed surprise at President William Ruto’s announcement of support for his candidacy for the African Union Chairmanship.
Raila revealed that he decided to pursue the prestigious AU position independently, without prior consultation with the government, as required by the rules. He also dismissed suggestions that the government’s backing was aimed at resolving local political issues.
ODM leader Raila Odinga released a list of African presidents who have publicly supported his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.
However, his path to the role has become more complex with the entry of other notable candidates.
Somalia’s former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Fawzia Adam, has announced her interest in the AUC seat, and Seychelles’ former Vice President, Vincent Meriton, has also joined the race.
