Gospel singer Alice Mumbi Kimanzi has recently shared the profoundly emotional and challenging journey she experienced on her path to motherhood.
In an intimate discussion with fellow singer Kambua, Kimanzi revealed the depth of her struggles and the profound joy she now feels with her miracle baby.
Alice described how holidays were particularly difficult for her, not because of others’ expectations but due to her own unmet hopes and dreams. She likened the experience to “failing an exam,” reflecting the intense personal disappointment she felt. During this time, a well-meaning family member had even asked for her period tracker, believing it could help, but this only added to the overwhelming stress she was under.
After consulting with medical professionals, Alice was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Despite undergoing treatment, her condition did not improve, and she was advised to consider adoption. The doctors suggested that conceiving a child might be impossible and encouraged adoption, particularly because she and her husband were still under 30 years old.
Despite these discouraging recommendations, Alice and her husband chose to continue praying and holding onto hope. As the years passed, Alice faced immense internal pressure and a growing sense of despair. She described feeling as though something precious was being taken from her, a joy she had longed for deeply. She would often question God, asking, “You gave me this desire for a child, so why aren’t you doing something about it?”
Throughout this challenging period, her relationship with her husband remained strong. Alice emphasized that they were united in their feelings and understanding, and her husband was fully aware of and shared her struggles.
In the sixth year of their journey, Alice encountered a significant test of faith. She recounted how the devil had whispered a lie to her, leading her to believe that God did not understand her pain. This belief caused her faith to waver considerably, and she began to distance herself from her spiritual practices.
By the eighth year, her relationship with God had deteriorated to the point where she started declining invitations to lead worship. Alice felt trapped and unsure of how to navigate her life without her faith. It was during this time of deep struggle that she accepted an invitation to a church event, which marked a turning point for her. At that moment, her perspective on God’s love shifted, and the false belief she had been holding onto began to dissipate. It felt as though something profound had changed within her.
Despite ongoing challenges related to infertility, Alice’s situation took a dramatic turn at the beginning of the tenth year. She consulted a doctor who predicted that she would conceive within a month. When she missed her period and took a pregnancy test, she was physically trembling with a mix of fear and excitement. To her overwhelming joy, the test was positive.
Today, Alice and her husband are blessed with a son who is now four years old. The couple’s journey to parenthood was fraught with challenges, but their faith and perseverance have been rewarded with the joy of their miracle child.
